This month our GWIS webinar is taking a break. We will be back soon with exciting content!
STEM Career Tips: Don't Get Mad, Get Equal- Putting an End to Misogyny in Science
Subtle forms of misogyny attack female leadership and coerce women to conform to conventional gender norms. It's time to call out these behaviors, say Alison Bentley and Rachel Garrett. This Nature article also discusses strategies for when the waves of misogyny feel soul-crushing. The authors recommend turning to deep connections with like-minded female academics and scientists. Informal lunches, happy hours, WhatsApp messaging groups, and more-formal gatherings for women and members of other under-represented groups have helped to put things in perspective, combat gaslighting, and build resilience — and science backs up our personal experiences.

Supreme Court Ends Race-based University Admissions
The U.S. Supreme Court has ended affirmative action programs for colleges and universities. This decision prevents both public and private schools from considering race as an admission factor. Researchers are concerned this will negatively impact the diversity in U.S. academic institutions, leading to a lack of a diverse workforce. This Nature article highlights what might be in store for diversity in science in light of the supreme court ruling.

Meet "Wonder Woman 1776" this Independence Day

True to tradition, the "new world" was named after a woman- America. First, she was depicted as Mother Earth, but when the United States of America was born on July 4, 1776, through the Declaration of Independence, America represented a resilient goddess sitting under the nation's flag. The irony is that women at that time didn't have many rights, such as voting, except in New Jersey, where one Abigail Adams reminded her husband, a congressman, to include "the ladies" in the new code for the U.S. Read the full story below-
