GWIS National Fellowship Program

Join the 2024-2025 National Fellowship Program!

GWIS National Fellowship Program invites you to serve on the committee for the 2024-2025 fellowship competition. The committee plays a critical role in advancing the fellowship program’s goal to recognize emerging women scholars with great potential and to advance the participation of women in STEM, Life Science, and related Social Science fields. This is a great opportunity to hone leadership skills, expand professional networks, advance the mission of GWIS, and gain practical experience as a grant administrator. If you are interested in participating, please complete the following interest form. Fellowship committee members and reviewers may not be 2024-2025 fellowship applicants.

We are pleased to welcome researchers to apply for the 2024-2025 GWIS National Fellowship Program. Graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty women conducting hypothesis-driven research anywhere in the world are welcome to apply. Applications are due on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 5:00 pm Eastern Time.

All questions regarding the program should be addressed to the program officers at fellowships@gwis.org.

GWIS Elective Offices Nominations

Call for Nominations!

The Nominating Committee of Graduate Women in Science invites all members to participate in nominating candidates for elective offices. This may be done individually or collectively through the chapter in which you hold membership. Do not overlook nominating yourself. The Nominating Committee is interested in receiving the names of everyone who is interested in serving in a national office.

Each local chapter and each of the three Chapter At-Large delegates receive nomination forms and nominee’s consent forms in the fall. Individual members can obtain such forms by request to the Chair of the Nominating Committee, from their local chapter, or from GWIS.org.

The ballot, along with brief biographies of the chosen nominees, will be printed in the May & June issues of GWIS News Media. To meet the GWIS News Media deadlines, the Nominating Committee requests receipt of completed nomination forms by mid-April.

Nominees are needed for the following national offices:

  1. President-Elect

    1. Serves one year and automatically advances to President

  2. Vice-President

    1. Serves one year and advances by election to President-Elect

  3. Treasurer

    1. Elected for a two-year term

  4. Recording & Corresponding Secretary

    1. Elected for a two-year term

  5. Member of the Board of Directors

    1. Serves a five-year term and is usually a past officer of national GWIS

  6. At-Large Delegate

    1. Serves a three year-term with third year as chair

  7. Member of the Membership Committee

    1. Serves a three year-term with third year as chair

  8. Member of the Nominating Committee

Nominees must be in good standing (dues paid) and must subscribe to the objectives of the organization. Thank you for helping to create a stronger national organization of GWIS. Please return nominations and acceptance of candidacy forms to the Nominating Committee Chair.

Lasker Foundation Medical Essay Contest

The contest opens early February and is sponsored by our clients at the prestigious Lasker Foundation – home to the Lasker Award that is regarded as America’s preeminent biomedical research prize for nearly 80 years.

Submissions for the Essay Contest [in English] are accepted through early April 2024.

Winning essays will be published in the July 2024 issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation and on the Lasker Foundation website.

Each year, the Lasker student essay contest attracts several hundred talented, early-career medical students and researchers, brings them under the Lasker umbrella, invites them to hone their communications skills, and provides several winners with up to $5,000 to offset university expenses, along with a resume-building opportunity.
