Global innovation and scientific advancement are hindered due to the underrepresentation of women in science, technology, and innovation policy (STIP). While research has examined women’s participation in STEM and policymaking separately, their intersection within STIP as a distinct sector remains understudied. This study addresses this gap by developing a comprehensive machine learning framework to accurately measure and predict women’s representation in STIP while accounting for missing domestic data.

Join the 4th Annual GWIS Book Club!

Join us for GWIS’s 4th annual Book Club! Over the next few months (July-September), we’ll be reading Mischievous Creatures: The Forgotten Sisters Who Transformed Early American Science by Catherine McNeur. The book, published in 2023, is widely available at libraries and can be found on Amazon (it’s definitely worth checking your local bookstore!). This book uncovers the lives and work of Margaretta Hare Morris and Elizabeth Carrington Morris, sisters and scientists in early America. This portrait of two unsung pioneers places women firmly at the center of the birth of American science.
